How to turn photos into a PDF on Android

Open PDF Sign & Fill, tap Create PDF, then scan the pages with the camera or choose photos from your gallery. Put the pages in order, pick the paper size and create the PDF; each photo becomes one page. You can then sign it and share it. Turn photos into one PDF, step by step

These steps use PDF Sign & Fill, our app for Android.

  • Tap Create PDF in the bar at the bottom of the screen.
  • To photograph paper, tap Scan with camera and take the picture. On Crop page, drag the four corners onto the corners of the sheet and tap Use page. Repeat for each page.
  • To use photos you already took, tap Choose photos and select them in your gallery. You can pick several at once.
  • Put the pages in order with the arrows beside each one, and remove any you don't want. Add images brings in more.
  • Give it a File name, and choose the Paper size (A4, Letter or Legal) and the Orientation. Auto turns each page to fit its photo.
  • Tap Create PDF. The new PDF opens right away.

From there you can sign it or add text like any other PDF, then tap Done and Share or Save as….

Add photos to a PDF you already have

Open the PDF, open Pages, and tap Add images. The photos go in as new pages, and you can move them into place. This is handy when someone asks for a signed form plus a photo of your ID or a receipt.

Tips for a scan people can read

  • Lay the paper flat on a dark table, so the edges stand out.
  • Use daylight or a bright room, and keep your shadow off the page.
  • Hold the phone straight above the sheet rather than at an angle. Cropping fixes a little tilt, not a lot.
  • Check every page before you send it. A blurry page is the most common reason a scan comes back.

Other ways to make a PDF from photos on Android

Android can do it without an extra app: in your gallery, select the photos, choose Print from the menu, and pick "Save as PDF" as the printer. You get one page per photo, with no cropping. Some phones' camera or file apps also have a document scan mode. Use whichever you have; the app above adds the cropping, the page order and signing in one place.

Frequently asked questions

Can I combine several photos into one PDF?

Yes. Choose as many photos as you need, or scan several pages, and they become the pages of one PDF in the order you set.

Is it free to turn photos into a PDF?

Yes. In PDF Sign & Fill, scanning, creating the PDF, signing it and saving or sharing it are free, with no watermark.

Can I scan a document with my phone instead of a scanner?

Yes. Tap Scan with camera, take the photo, and drag the corners onto the page to crop it. For a form you then have to sign, see how to sign a PDF on Android.

Which paper size should I pick?

Pick the size the person who gets the PDF will print on. In the United States and Canada that is usually Letter, and Legal for some contracts and court papers. Most other countries use A4. If you are not sure, Letter for a US recipient and A4 for everyone else is a safe choice. The photo is fitted inside the page either way, so nothing is cut off.

Why can't the app scan with my camera?

The scan uses your phone's camera app. If there is none, take the photo with any camera app and add it with Choose photos.

Can I fill in a scanned form?

A scan has no form fields, but you can still tap the page and type where each answer goes. See how to fill a PDF form on Android.
